XRHealth Merges with Amelia Virtual Care to Address Mental Health
XRHealth joined forces with the Spain-based virtual reality company to treat physical and mental health issues through an XR therapeutics platform.

By - XRHealth recently merged with Amelia Virtual Care to create an extended reality (XR) Therapeutics Platform through the combination of virtual and augmented reality technology and flexible virtual reality software to address mental health.
In recent years, the growth of virtual reality and digital therapeutics has been rapid, largely due to improvements in access and their ability to address patient needs.
Based in Boston, XRHealth using therapeutic care virtual rooms with proprietary FDA- and CE-registered medical extended reality technology. To expand upon its capabilities and treat further needs, this organization merged with Amelia Virtual Care to create a hub for XR therapeutics.
Headquartered in Spain, Amelia Virtual Care provides virtual reality software to assist mental health professionals in clinical practices.
XRHealth combines virtual and augmented reality technology, licensed clinicians, and advanced data analytics to create a comprehensive therapeutic care solution . The company aims to expand mental health access.
Containing over 140 virtual environments, an Amelia Virtual Care software known as Amelia VR assists therapists in engaging in psychoeducation sessions with patients. As the two organizations work in unison, they anticipate owning more than 500,000 virtual reality treatments, treating over 25,000 patients and gaining the participation of more than 2,500 clinicians by the end of the year.
With intentions to go by the name of XRHealth, this joining of forces occurred under the facilitation of a leading Barcelona-based venture capital firm, Asabys Partners.
"The consolidation of these two VR leading players represent an impactful opportunity to provide therapeutic virtual health care psychotherapy options to patients contributing to solve the mental health pandemic. Both companies cover the needs of patients and healthcare systems with a technological, clinical and efficient approach which represents also an outstanding opportunity for the respective shareholders," Josep Ll. Sanfeliu, Managing Partner at Asabys, said in a press release.
Those affiliated with XRHealth noted that the assistance of Amelia Virtual Care would allow the organization to expand upon its goals of increasing revenue and distancing itself from other platforms.
"With our merger, we now have an end-to-end product that addresses privacy and security, multiple use cases with a variety of content, compliance and regulation, and operational tools to support scale (including real-time and asynchronous control of treatments and treatment plans, connectivity, integrations to EHR/CRM, and lines of communications),” said Miki Levy, XRHealth co-founder and CTO.
“This solution is ideal for providers and third-party companies that want to help revolutionize healthcare with a XR software without investing time and money into building all the supporting infrastructure. We have a growing number of content partners today and expect this to increase dramatically after this merger," Levy continued.
Amid the widely recognized uptake and application of virtual reality solutions, the conditions that they aim to treat vary.
A March announcement from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) contained its plans to work with Rocket VR Health (RVH) to determine the efficacy of a virtual reality digital therapeutic in treating blood cancer patients.
As an organization, RVH aims to transform the mental health treatment landscape through virtual reality therapeutic programs. For this clinical trial, the organization worked with the Cancer Outcomes Research and Education Program at MGH. Over a 4-week period, the virtual reality therapeutic used evidence-based palliative care interventions that combined interactive experiences with doctor holograms and meditations.
